Martin Vickers MP assisted in handing over £121,500 to two Community projects. They were engagement group OneVoice and community learning centre, Oasis Academy Immingham. The Money was raised with a series of activites celebrating the past, present and future of the port and town of Immingham.
Martin Vickers has raised his concerns about the number of nuisance phone calls people receive and that the current systems in place to protect against unwanted calls are insufficient. He called for a single point of contact and asked the Minister to take action to prevent these nuisance phone calls.
Martin has asked a question at Transport Ministers question time about the landslip between Scunthorpe and Doncaster. He asked Ministers to use their influence to ensure that East Midlands Trains improves its service to Newark North Gate, until the track is fixed, to make access to London and the South easier.
Martin Vickers MP has spoken in a debate in the House of Commons entitled ‘Role of planning in preserving urban views and regenerating high streets’. He expressed reservations about the Planning Inspectorate’s role in the planning process and highlighted the need for a variety of shops on seafront promenades and on high streets.
Martin has spoken in the House of Commons during a debate about the Humber Bridge. He raised the bridge tolls and the benefits to the local economy. He also spoke about the new elected board which will oversee the bridge. The new board will be directly accountable to local communities ensuring local people benefit from the bridge.
Martin has signed the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Book of Commitment in the House of Commons. In signing the Book of Commitment, Martin paid tribute to those who perished during the Holocaust and honoured the extraordinary Holocaust survivors who work tirelessly to educate young people about what they endured, through the Holocaust Educational Trust’s Outreach programme.
Martin raised the issue of high mortality rates at the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust with the Prime Minister during Question time. The Prime Minister gave Martin assurances that whatever recommendations result from the review into procedures at the truth will be implemented in full.
Martin expressed concerns to the Environment Secretary that his hands maybe tied because of European regulation. It would be far better if the UK could determine for itself which countries it imported meat from.
Martin welcomes the Government’s announcement on social care, because another 100,000 people will benefit. Although he is concerned that when talk of £75,000 and £123,000 are bandied around, as some vulnerable people may be concerned, particularly in areas like Northern Lincolnshire, where terraced houses routinely change hands for less than £75,000. He stressed the importance of accurate advice being readily available.
