Following the Transport Secretary’s statement about rail franchises Martin asked him about improved services to Cleethorpes as part of his campaign to include a direct service between London and Cleethorpes in the new East Coast franchise. The minister said he will be happy to meet with Martin to discuss this further. This is very welcome and Martin shall be taking up his offer of a further meeting.
The Prime Minister, the Rt Hon David Cameron MP, has received a copy of the 5th anniversary of the Cleethorpes Chronicle from local MP Martin Vickers, during a meeting at Number 10 Downing Street.
Martin has expressed his concern regarding the uncertainty over the future of children heart surgery at Leeds general infirmary to Secretary of State for Health, the Rt Hon Jeremy Hunt MP. Martin raised his concerns during a debate in the House of Commons and highlighted that the uncertainty faced by parents is unacceptable and requested a speedy conclusion.
Martin has asked the Minister of State at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, Michael Fallon MP, about investment and growth in North and North East Lincolnshire. He used the Cleethorpes Chronicle to promote Cleethorpes as a good place to start a business and highlighted that if people work hard and have a quality product they are able to start a successful business.
Martin called for a Parliamentary debate on the recent landslip which caused huge rail disruption. He was supported in the debate by a number of other MPs whose constituencies have been affected by the landslip. Martin raised issues of responsibility for the slip, a timeframe for repairs and replacement services. The Minister of State for Transport, Simon Burns MP was present and provided a response
In an exchange with the Minister of State at the Home Office, Jeremy Browne MP, Martin expressed concern that the proposals for the minimum pricing of alcohol would penalise the law abiding majority.
Martin Vickers MP has contributed to a House of Commons debate on the Future of British Retail. He used his own previous experience in retail to speek about the success of St Peters Avenue in Cleethorpes and mentioned other high streets in Immingham and Barton upon Humber. He also spoke of the Mary Portas recommendations and highlighted his reservation that some of them are too simplistic.
Martin Vickers, Member of Parliament for Cleethorpes, has raised concerns over immigration ahead of the lifting of restrictions on Romanian and Bulgarian migration. He raised his concerns in an article in the London paper 'City AM'.
