Sea View Street in Cleethorpes was awarded a silver medal in the Social Media category at the Great British High Street Competition. Sadly, the street missed out to Falmouth, a town in Cornwall, for the Coastal Community category.
As the local MP, Martin Vickers attended the ceremony along with Anna Darnell, owner of Abode, and Lawrence Brown, chair of the North East Lincolnshire Visitor Economy, Services and Retail Group.
The event was hosted by the Northern Powerhouse Minister, and neighbouring MP to Cleethorpes, Andrew Percy MP. Andrew said that he "really wanted Cleethorpes to win. If I could have fiddled it, I would have.” Andrew went on to say that he will be visiting Cleethorpes for himself soon.
Later in the week, Martin went on to raise Sea View Street's achievement in the House of Commons:

Earlier this week the finals of the Great British High Street awards took place. Sea View Street in Cleethorpes was one of the finalists, winning a silver in one of the categories. The street is a collection of independent retailers. May we have a debate on the role of independent retailers and the contribution that they make to our communities and to the economy?
Mr Lidington
I think we all accept that with the growth of online sales all retailers, but in particular small high street shops, face a challenging environment. That makes it all the more welcome that Sea View Street in Cleethorpes has won this award. I would like to add my congratulations to all the retailers there who have clearly worked extremely hard, and in an innovation fashion, to ensure they still pull in customers.
