Martin raised the importance of funding for rural bus services during questions to the Leader of the House today. Commenting on this issue, Martin said that, "It is vital for villages and market towns that funding is provided for rural bus services. We should be doing more to facilitate the movement of people into places where they can contribute to the local economy." Martin has called for a debate on this issue.

Martin Vickers (Cleethorpes): People in the villages of Lincolnshire are desperate to get to Cleethorpes, where they will find excellent shopping and the finest fish and chips in the land. Unfortunately, however, the Cleethorpes economy could be set back due to cuts in rural bus services. May we have a debate about the funding of rural bus services, which clearly needs a rethink?
Chris Grayling (Leader of the House): I understand the point that my hon. Friend makes. That is a matter for the Department for Communities and Local Government, which will come before the House on Monday. I encourage him to bring his point to the attention of the Ministers with the most direct responsibility for addressing these issues.
