Martin recently attended a parliamentary drop-in focused on securing better access to eye care services. Hosted by the Association of Optometrists, the session highlighted the vital role high street opticians play in delivering primary eye care and reducing the burden on the NHS.
The event focused on the "Eye care everywhere" framework, which aims to address the current "postcode lottery" of service provision across England. By utilizing the skills of high street optometrists to treat common eye conditions, the initiative seeks to cut down on unnecessary GP and A&E visits.
Martin commented: “This event was a valuable opportunity to receive specific constituency information regarding the eye care services currently provided in our area. I have already taken this issue up directly with the Integrated Care Board (ICB) on behalf of local residents to ensure that we have consistent and accessible care. It is essential that our constituents can access the services they need right on their local high street.”
