Martin attended the Lobular Moon Shot Project drop-in in Parliament today.
The drop-in was an opportunity for MPs to learn more about the project - a national campaign calling for urgent investment in research into lobular breast cancer.
Martin attended the event to offer his support and meet with the campaign’s founder Dr Susan Michaelis who has campaigned since 2013 to help save thousands of lives.
Sadly, 22 people a day are diagnosed with lobular breast cancer in the UK. That means constituents in every part of the country are affected and yet lobular still has no specific treatment, is rarely picked up by routine NHS mammograms, and suffers from a lack of basic research funding.
Despite accounting for 15% of all breast cancer cases (8,500 diagnoses per year), lobular cancer is often diagnosed late – leading to worse outcomes. The LMSP is calling for £20 million over five years to fund research and drive the development of targeted treatment – that’s less than £240 per patient expected to be diagnosed over the next 10 years.
