Martin is continuing to make representations to National Grid regarding their proposals to build a new high-voltage electricity transmission line between Grimsby and Walpole, including through Martin’s constituency.
Martin recently met with National Grid in Parliament to discuss their plans in further detail and to raise local concerns. As before, he urged them to ensure that the route of the project is far away from residential developments and that underground cabling is used in the most sensitive areas.
During this meeting, National Grid informed him that the planning process will still take another 2 years and, in Summer 2027, they will submit a full application for a development consent order (DCO) to the Planning Inspectorate. In the meantime, they are holding a second stage consultation on the project, open until 11:59pm on Wednesday 6 August 2025: https://www.nationalgrid.com/the-great-grid-upgrade/grimsby-to-walpole/…
In addition, National Grid are offering a £200,000 community benefit payment per kilometer of new overhead electricity line proposed for the project. This payment is part of a wider scheme where communities hosting new electricity infrastructure, like substations, receive financial compensation.
