Martin recently attended GambleAware’s event in Parliament to celebrate the launch of their flagship Stigma Campaign.
GambleAware developed the Stigma Campaign in response to the significant evidence that stigma is the key barrier to reaching out for support. The campaign has been co-created with people with lived experience of gambling harms, putting their experiences at the heart of GambleAware’s communications. To date, the campaign has been found to be the only effective safer gambling messaging to yield significant decreases in gambling urges.
GambleAware state that Government recognition of and action to reduce the role of stigma in gambling harms is key to beginning to reduce its impact. This is particularly important for protecting children and young people; GambleAware’s Stigma Campaign sets out starkly the harms this group faces, with a shocking 85,000 children aged 11-17 in Great Britain currently experiencing gambling harm.
