Today, Martin attended a drop-in briefing titled ‘Hepatitis C Elimination: Celebrating Progress and Sustaining Success’, which was organised by the The Hepatitis C Trust.
The event was an opportunity for MPs to hear about progress being made towards the nation’s hepatitis C elimination goal, receive information about local and regional progress, and for MPs to show their support for the action needed to achieve and maintain hepatitis C elimination in the long-term.
Hepatitis C is a significant health inequalities issue and the Hepatitis C Elimination Programme has been particularly effective in engaging marginalised groups and helping to reduce the burden of liver disease, with deaths from hepatitis C-related liver disease down 31% in recent years. England is making good progress towards the World Health Organisation’s 2030 hepatitis C elimination target and there is very real prospect that we could be one of the first countries to achieve this goal.
Martin adds, "I was delighted to meet the the Hepatitis C Trust in Parliament today to learn about their valuable work. I received their report, which will provide useful information for when I meet with local health officials in my constituency."
