Martin highlighted the importance of the seafood industry during questions to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA). Commenting on his question to the Secretary of State, Martin said that, "The seafood industry plays an important part in the local economy - it employs thousands of people. Seafood is also important because of its health benefits, and we should be eating a lot more of it. I feel very strongly about this issue, and will continue to press the Government to do everything it can to promote seafood."

Martin Vickers (Cleethorpes) (Con): Seafood is nutritional and healthy and many thousands of people in the Cleethorpes and Grimsby areas work in the industry. What initiatives is her Department planning to promote the seafood industry?
Elizabeth Truss (Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs): I thank my hon. Friend for his point. The Great British Food Unit has not just outposts around the world, but regional teams to help local businesses, whether they are in Cleethorpes or elsewhere in the country, to promote their food both in the UK and overseas. Certainly, seafood is a huge part of that.
